The true light is already shining
Scripture: And yet I do write a new commandment to you, which holds true in him and among you, for the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. 1 John 2:8
Prayer: Let me focus my attention on the true light is already shining.
Response: It's easier to comprehend the light than to try to calculate the darkness diminishing. Instead of reading media headlines and listening to sound-bytes, observe in your own life what you can measure of the emerging light. You don't need any special instruments, just a clear eye to see new forgiveness and compassion exhibited that are transformative to all – even to the idle observer who chanced upon the life scene. Consider when you are graced to pray deeply for those in your life and especially for those and for causes that are far distant, or when you notice almost for the first time that you are not acting out of self-interest.
Indeed the light is already shining and in greater intensity each moment as what was once seen as fragile frozen buds begin to emerge as glorious, sturdy and colorful life blossoms. Applaud and encourage the darkness' passing with joy and celebration – even among those who still repeat a dirge of what was once.
For today, survey your own scene and mention in prayer your thanksgiving for the light that embraces you even if your eyes accustomed once to the darkness have not quite adjusted to the glare of this dawning sunrise.
