Unapproachable Light

text size A A A

Scripture: (God) alone is immortal and . . . lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:16

Prayer: I came upon this verse referenced in Michael Ward's The Narnia Code. Let me dwell in the words unapproachable light.

Response: It's good from time to time to step back and consider the unapproachable light that became manifest in Jesus. How do you bring this truth to your reality, to consciousness? How about seeing a sunrise burst as that unapproachable light, the absolute calm following a deluge of rain, a message meant for you at a special time of need and the messenger not even being aware of the need?

Spend some moments in silence, in reverence, and in awe of the light that glows within you through grace that emanates from the source of the unapproachable light. It is as if the distant sun is warming you on a wet morning, or an encouraging melody sounds that you faintly recall, or a sudden visitor appears to dispel loneliness.

Your mind, frustrated in its attempt to grapple the precise meaning of the unapproachable light, reduces the words to a line of poetry better discarded in a forgotten volume rarely opened. Today, it is worth your while to open the volume and repeat in your heart: To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
