Wet Sandals
Scripture:Then (Jesus) said to the crowd,"Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one's life does not consist of possessions." Luke 12:15
Prayer:Allow me to spend a moment on the meaning of life.
Response:Life is being conscious of the wet sandals as you walk along the shore during therain; it is laughing in a raging storm; it is listening intently to what you might hear bubbling up within, or transmitted by someone in need of witness; life is a smile observing the maturation of a young one; it is taking the time patiently to share wisdom earned at great price and struggle. The meaning of life is in discovering who you are and embracing that truth whether or not it conforms to the image/illusion others have designed for you, and alternatively accepting and granting free expression to another’s dream.
Now, if you were to follow the guidance above, how could you possibly exhibit greed in your life? How could the acquisition of possessions consume you, or, put another way, how could you ever define yourself or allow others to do likewise based on the accumulation or loss of things?
A fine guide to follow in thwarting the menace of greed is to be generous, filled with compassion in action and service, and demonstrating authentic joy and celebration in all aspects of your life, even at those times when your sandals are wet and a storm is raging.
