Believe God

text size A A A

Do you believe God? or do you believe in God. There is a difference.

Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Romans 4:3 Abraham believed God when He told him his seed will be as numerous as the stars in the heavens. God justified Abraham because he believed. It is God who justifies, who makes us righteous. Romans 3:27

Do you believe in God? Are you working for your salvation? Those who work for their salvation are really working to pay off a debt. A debt they can never live long enough to repay. Therefore, their work is hopeless. Their works are all done in sin. Sin cannot redeem you from sin. When you think you are finished working you will be still a sinner. Isaiah 64:6 says: "But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;....."

Romans 4:4 states: "Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace, but as debt." Salvation is by grace through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are working for their salvation are on their own. For God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

If it were possible for us to work, work, and then work to pay off our sin debt, what then? How can we have salvation? Can we work for our own salvation from sin? No way. We have tried keeping the ten commandments and that hasn't worked for us. So what then?

How can we achieve eternal life? The way to the tree of life was closed at the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve sinned. God drove them out of the garden, " and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life". Genesis 3:24 The next time we read about the tree of life is in Revelation 22:1-2 The tree of life is in the New Jerusalem.

Only the redemptive work of our Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary's cross over 2,000 years ago can redeem us back to God - pay our sin debt in full and give us eternal life.

This is why the little baby in Bethlehem called Jesus came. This is the reason many of us celebrate his birth.

Believe God. Believe the gospel of Jesus Christ and repent of your sin. "Believe" is an action word.
