Kathleen Carnali may be a new name to you, but those who are fans of strong female vocalists like Natalie Grant and Brooke Fraser ought to take note of this up-and-coming talent. I met her for the first time recently and here's just some of our conversation.
DT: When did you decide to pursue music ministry full-time?
KC: I played the piano ever since I was little, but I never sang [until I was a teenager]. Within two years I was singing professionally for awesome things like the DARE foundation, getting to travel around the country. I was 18 when I was invited to a Christian church for the first time ever. I went and actually that was where I heard the Gospel preached in front of me for the first time ever. I gave my life to Christ that day and it was like a light bulb went off. I was singing so much and I realized that's why I had been given this gift - to use it for Him. Pretty soon the Lord just started sending song after song after song.
DT: What's your plans for the year ahead?
KC: Well, we have a lot of touring ahead. And we're also praying about going to Europe. Kind of out of nowhere recently we've just had this really strong draw that we're supposed to go there in October. And so, we're like "Okay Lord." It's so neat because every year God calls us somewhere oversees & we've just had the awesome opportunity to go to so many neat places. Last year it was South Korea. We got to go to Haiti, Honduras, just all over. And so we really believe that this is going to be our next trip. We think it's going to be in October and we'll just let God work out the details, because He always does. Oh, and we'll also be working on the next album as well.
DT: What are some of the things you love to do apart from music?
KC: I love to travel, which is great because it's a lot of what we do. I love to take pictures of amazing scenery. I love just seeing the mountains and just going to those places. I just love the beauty of creation. I love tea, hot tea. I like having tea time when I'm home. [laughing] I don't think I've ever told that to anybody. ...I just love spending time with my husband and our wonderful friends. [I'm] just as passionate about music as I am about sharing the Gospel & being evangelistic, because that helped change my life for eternity.
