Interview with Brian the Intern [Gourmet Music Report #26]

We had the privilege of working with college student Brian Speelman as a full-time summer intern. He was a hard-worker and helped a ton! So we decided to give him the reins of "Under The Radar" this week:

DT: What is your observation of behind-the-scenes work at ReFrame Media?
BS:
There is a ton to do! All of the different ministries seemed to have a lot going on all the time and it was really cool to be able to help out in such a variety of ways.

DT: What are some key things you learned through your internship?
BS:
One thing I learned was how different of a mindset someone has to take when they are working in a ministry setting. At ReFrame, money was not the driving factor - which was really refreshing. Another thing was the general nuts and bolts. There are so many little jobs that need to be taken care of and it was fun to work on the huge variety of tasks.

DT: Did you enjoy producing your own episode of "Under The Radar"?
BS:
It was a lot of fun and a good learning experience. You never truly realize how much work goes into a project like that until you are the one in responsible for getting it done.

DT: You spent a lot of time this summer helping UTR. Did anything surprise you?
BS:
On a surface level, it was surprising to learn how much music is out there that I had no idea existed that has such great quality. Like I mentioned before, the sheer amount of work that goes into something like a UTR program surprised me.

DT: Tell us about the school you're headed back to for the Fall
BS:
Calvin College in Grand Rapids is a liberal arts school with a little over 4,000 students currently enrolled. One of the common goals I have seen in all my classes is not just that a given professor wants you to do well in all of your classes, but also wants to push you to become a better person - someone who goes out and can engage everything you come into contact with.

Brian the Intern is in charge for the Labor Day weekend edition of UTR - he picked all the music and is the co-host. Check out RadarRadio.net (starting 9/4) for a free download.
