Interview with Lanae Hale - Part 2 [Gourmet Music Report #17]

Here's the continuation of last week's conversation with up-and-coming artist Lanae Hale, whose first full-length album ("Back and Forth") is available now.

DT: When did you first fall in love with creating music?

LH: I started writing songs and playing guitar when I was 15 and my dad played guitar so I sort of picked it up and taught myself -- looked at books and looked at people and I would ask him questions, things like that. But I started when I was 15 and just loved it and it just kind of stuck.

DT: Tell us about the debut EP that came out in 2007?

LH: The EP was just a six song project to kind of get me started. I was with Centricity Music in my development deal with them. So right after that we thought "Well let's get something out there until we get the full project." But when I signed my full artist deal, I started recording for the full album. So it's been a whirlwind and it's been fun.

DT: What do you like to do away from the stage and away from music?

LH: I love hanging out with my husband; he's my very best friend. We actually got married last may so we just celebrated our one year anniversary -- so that's kind of funny. For down time, when I'm in town and we're together, we just hang out. He's just my best friend. And honestly we might sound boring, but we read together -- like go through a novel. Right now we're reading This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. So we're like "Are you ready to read? Yes!" We're such nerds but we love reading together and we'll play games together -- board games and stuff. We're probably the nerdy couple, but we love it. We'll go for walks and honestly he's my favorite past time -- just hanging out with him.
