The UFC, or the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has become one of the most popular sports in the United States. Despite some controversy along the way, the sport has managed revolutionize itself and is now considered just as legitimate as the NBA, NFL and NHL. Just recently, the league was sold for $4 billion to a firm, which will undoubtedly take it even further. So, what lies ahead for the Ultimate Fighting Championship? Will the sport be able to maintain its luster? Well, this weekend will feature two MMA events. One will be hosted by Bellator, while the other will be managed by the UFC.

First and foremost, Bellator 160 will take place tonight. A championship showdown between UFC vet and former champion, Benson Henderson, and current Bellator champion Patricio Freire, will headline the event. The card will also include notable fighters, such as Bubba Jenkins, Georgi Karakhanyan and AJ McKee. The main card is expected to begin at 10PM on the Spike Television channel. Spike, which was previously home to the UFC and the Ultimate Fighter, has been partnered with the Bellator organization for the past few years. The card should be a good one. Meanwhile, the UFC attempt to shine on the FOX network. UFC’s upcoming Fox card will include a total of eleven fights. The first few fights will be exclusively aired on the UFC’s Fight Pass, before the event will switch over to Fox at 6pm. The preliminary portion of the card will air from 6PM until 8PM. And of course, the event will be headlined with a title contention matchup between Carlos Condit and Demian Maia. Both are former title contenders and both are desperate for a win to keep themselves in line for a potential title shot in the near future.

The UFC card will also feature a few other notable names, including Charles Oliveira, Anthony Pettis, and Paige VanZant. VanZant has gained famed from her recent stint on the television reality show, Dancing with the Stars. It will be her first return to the Octagon, since appearing on the show earlier this year. Meanwhile, former champion Anthony Pettis is in dire need of a victory. The former champion has lost his last three fights by decision, including a loss to current champion, Eddie Alvarez, and former champion, Rafael dos Anjos.

And, long-time UFC fans will absolutely love the main card’s opener, which features a showdown and rematch between veterans Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller. Aside from these two cards, ONE Championship will also be hosting a card this week. ONE Championship’s Saturday card is headlined by Luis Santos and Igor Svirid. As a fan of mixed martial arts, there is plenty to look forward to this weekend, as well in the coming months and years. While some believe the UFC has hit its peak, the sport is truly entering its prime. The acquisition from WME-IMG should help to propel the sport to new heights.
