In 2001 Colombian singer Shakira released her first English language album Laundry Service. The single "Underneath Your Clothes" got my attention. The sultry love song starts with the words, "You're a song written by the hands of God."
Soon I started praying for this talented singer to use her talents for God. Since 2001 Shakira has become one of the most famous singers in the world. Last week People Magazine reported, "On Friday, the Grammy-winning Colombian singer became the first person ever to reach 100 million likes on Facebook."

The World Health Organization has announced that an ebola virus breakout in Africa has killed 603 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. According to WHO spokesman Dan Epstein, "It's probably going to be several months before we are able to get a grip on this epidemic." Epstein told Reuters and other media, "It's very difficult for us to get into communities where there is hostility to outsiders."
An ebola virus factsheet from the WHO reveals the disease is spread by "close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals." Nurses and doctors sometimes get the virus from their patients. FULL POST

If you struggle with pornography, consider praying with Bible verses.
Jesus taught his disciples to pray with a model prayer in Matthew 6. For centuries Christians have prayed these verses. Verse 13 is relevant for people with sinful addictions, "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
In the Old Testament we encounter the prayers of men struggling with lust and the desire to sin.
In Psalm 51:10 ESV David prayed, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."
Psalm 19:13 NLT says, "Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don't let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin."
Job made a commitment to not look at women for sexual gratification. Job 31:1 NLT shows this commitment: "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman." FULL POST

You've heard the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Sometimes pictures are worth a lot more than that. This photo shows the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan, near the Syrian border. 82,000 people live here, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The New York Times describes Zaatari as a "do-it-yourself metropolis" with a thriving black market. "Most of those businesses and shops are unauthorized."

Luke 17 tells a sad story. Jesus healed ten people of the dreaded disease leprosy. Only one of the healed people returned to show gratitude, to say thank you.
Often we are so busy or self-centered that we fail to thank God for our friends and families, the food we eat, the talents we have, and the amazing gift of salvation.
Earlier today while looking for a photo to use in another blog post, I discovered this picture of a sunflower and a probing question, "Have you thanked God for your eyes today?" I had not.
So I thanked God.
Here is a prayer list to assist you in thanking God for the blessings in your life and for the painful things that we would rather avoid.
