Yesterday 19 firemen died while fighting a forest fire in Arizona.
CNN reported, "It was the deadliest day for firefighters since the 9/11 attacks. And it is the deadliest wildland fire since 1933, according to a list from the U.S. National Wildfire Coordinating Group."
There is a unique tradition for firemen killed while on duty. Their caskets are carried by fire trucks instead of hearses to where they are buried.
In 1997 a friend of mine that was a fireman died at a fire and I attended his funeral. After his casket was loaded onto a fire truck, a procession of fire trucks from local fire departments led the way to the cemetery with their sirens blaring. It was really cool to see someone that risked his life, receive a funeral worthy of a hero.
The firemen that died on 9/11 also received this honor at their funerals.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit to comfort the families and friends of the deceased firemen.
- Pray for the wives and children of these men to experience emotional healing.
- Pray for Christians to share the love of Christ with the hurting and to be a source of encouragement as they suffer.
- Pray for rain to fall on dry ground where people are in danger of such forest fires.
