I have been meditating on the prayer watches of the bible. Today I am sharing with you the knowledge I have gained through researching this interesting topic. This is the first of eight blogs I will share with you on this subject. The consensus of my studies indicate the history of the prayer watches start in the Jewish Calendar. The night was divided into military hours with the intent that soldiers would be on guard during these different time periods. The watches were initially divided into three watches.
The first or "beginning of the watches (Lam. 2:19) the middle watch, (Judges 7:19) and the morning watch (Exodus 14:24) The beginning watch from sunset to 10 P.M. the middle watch from 10 P.M. to 2 A.M. and the last watch from 2 A.M. to sunrise. The Roman government increased the number of watches to four, which became known as the first, second, third and fourth watch.
There are four watches of the night and four watches of the day. First Watch also known as the Evening Watch from 6:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Second Watch from 9:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. Third Watch also known as the Breaking of Day Watch from 12:00 A.M. to 3:00 A.M. and the Fourth Watch or The Morning Watch from 3:00 A.M. to 6:00 A.M. The four watches of the day are: Fifth Watch aka the Early Morning Watch from 6:00 A.M. – 9:00 A.M. Sixth Watch 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. The Seventh Watch 12:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and Eighth Watch 3:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M. FULL POST

Nope, President Obama You Are Wrong. I love and respect President Barak Obama. However, once again he is Wrong. Please let common sense prevail when it comes to transgender washroom’s policy. In the beginning God created male and female. I don’t care who or what you feel like, you were created either male or female. Having said that, it is your choice, right and privilege to be anyone you choose to be as long as you don’t take away my privilege’s to be whom I choose to be.
There must be order. Separate bathroom was created for a reason. It provides order. Males as determine by what lies between their legs goes to male bathroom. Likewise, females use female bathrooms. Please tell me what is so hard about that. When does minority rule? Are transgender people in the majority? I think not. Wisdom is truly turned backwards to suggest anything else.
Of all the issues that America is facing and particular the African American community i.e. poverty, lack of resources, high crime, murder/violence, need for jobs for ex-felons etc. surely President Obama could have weighed in on something else. I’m, once again disappointed in President Obama stance on this issue because of his claim to be a Christian and statement that he prays every night. FULL POST

All across the nations the headlines scream of senseless murder, unbelievable violence, sex trafficking, kidnapping and horrific torture of individuals/families. Terrorists groups seem to pop up from nowhere trying to establish their name and gain recognition. Gang leaders meet to plot their devious plans. Sometimes not even the police can be counted on to serve and protect but instead appear to be gangsters with a badge. People are being shot driving on the expressway. Innocent children being executed because their parents have gang ties. Governors and mayors are at a loss to know how to solve the problems. It seems like the secret service has even fallen down on their jobs to adequately protect the President of the U.S. It is only by the grace, mercy of God and prayers of the saints that his life and his family has been spared.
What is the answer? There is a spiritual answer to this natural problem. Demonic spirits can take over regions. Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. We have power to Bind the ruling spirit of Murder. Is there any hope? What can we do? God has already provided the answer. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Let the people of God cry out for repentance and revival then we shall see the power of God when we once again understand the power of repentance and prayer. FULL POST

This is the month that Christians all around the world prepare to celebrate, observe the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Many families are buying new outfits to celebrate the event, children are rehearsing their Easter speech and many churches will recount the last seven words of Jesus Christ. So what does the word “resurrection” means? Webster defines resurrection as: the event told about in the Bible in which Jesus Christ returned to life after his death 2) the resurrection: the event told about in the Bible in which dead people will be brought back to life before the day of final judgment 3: the act of causing something that had ended or been forgotten or lost to exist again, to be used again, etc.
When you hear the word “Resurrection” what do you think of? I think of the horrible punishment, the pain and suffering that should have been my death sentence BUT JESUS the innocent lamb of God, the darling of Heaven stood in my place. The Passion of Christ brought the image of Jesus suffering to life in a way that has greatly impacted my life. The combination of God’s word and having such a vivid image engraved in the mind is indeed a very powerful thing. FULL POST

As the New Year unfolds most people take this time of the season to review the choices, successes, failures and lessons of the last year. They begin to evaluate and make decisions about changes for the New Year and set new expectations. Most of us start out with good intentions but somehow seem unable to stay with the new goals. The reason behind this inability to carry out the plan we have established for ourselves can be attributed to several different things. One of those critical areas is the lack of focus.
FOCUS is defined as the center of activity, attraction or attention. It is to concentrate on something in particular, to bring into view. In order to accomplish any task you must give it your full attention. Your actions must be geared towards fulfilling that goal. It requires a certain amount of discipline.
INTENTIONAL is defined as doing something in a way that is planned or intended. Intended defined as something you have established in your mind as a purpose or goal.
TRANFORMATION a complete or major change in someone's or something's appearance, form, etc.
I have one goal this year to intentionally focus on transformation by hearing the voice of God. I will deliberately set my mind and heart to seek God to make him the center of attraction. I will give God my attention and center my activity on him in order to bring his purpose, will and plan into my view. As I pursue him I know that my heart, mind, will, and spirit will undergo a transformation. I understand that change is not easy. I understand that I must declutter my life, take somethings off the table and eliminate “busyness”. I will humble myself and be broken before him and embrace the transformation he is working in my life. FULL POST

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Well here we are at the end of another year. The older you get the faster time seems to pass by. You celebrate the New Year and make all sorts of promises to yourself of things to pursue for that year. If you are not careful you blink and before you know it the year is gone. People also have a lot of “traditions” they follow. Some of these “traditions have been passed down from generation to generation but sometimes we don’t even remember why we do them – we just know that we do.
For example, most African American celebrate the New Year with a special meal. The menu may include Black-eyed peas, greens (mustard, Turnips or Spinach, ham and or fried chicken, cornbread) and candied jams etc. The thinking behind this tradition is certain foods represent certain things i.e black-eyes peas luck or favor, greens for dollars, and cornbread for gold. Yeah. I don’t know why I follow this tradition I just know I somehow feel guilty if I don’t have certain of these items on my table on New Year Day.
Another old folk saying is, if you start out with a dirty, cluttered house your house will be like that for the rest of the year. So as the end of the year draws near I find myself going through the rooms in the house dusting and cleaning to ensure that the house at least appears neat. Between the end of the year and the first month of the New Year I also go through kitchen cabinets and freezer checking for expired food or “stuff” in the freezer that I no longer recognize. It happen in other churches and you expressed your condolences, shared a sense of sorrow and loss in learning of the passing of a Pastor. This time it has happened to you. It is your beloved Pastor. It is your church. You could not will it away, wish it away, bargain for more time, pray it away. After all, death is the entrance into the new life. It is why you live your life to live again. It is why you sing songs like: Soon One Morning, I’m Going To Fly Away, When the Saints Go Marching In, Get Right Church etc. However, it does not come without pain and without mixed emotions. You still struggle with denial and find yourself saying as I do “I can’t believe my Pastor is gone home”.
Your church may be one that is young in age, recently established. It may be one that is mature, been established for a long time and the Pastor was the founder. It may be one that has experience the loss of a Pastor before perhaps via retirement, transfer or death. The results is the same. It is a life changing event, a time of emotional upheaval, questions about the future – for your church and your personal life. It is a time of uncertainty. It is uncomfortable. It is a time of transition. Transition defined as: passage from one state, stage, subject, or place to another. FULL POST

Tyshawn was shot several times in the upper body, including in the face, head and back in an alleyway in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood around 4:15 p.m. The nine-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Can you imagine this child lying dead in this alley with his basketball beside him? Police suspect a family member has gang ties.
FEAR of retaliation is high. Police are on high alert. A warning has been issued to schools and churches in the area that Tyshawn was executed in there may be gang wars in the next few days. It has been suggested that churches in that community should CANCEL THEIR SERVICES FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE DEVIL IS A LIAR. FULL POST

What a homegoing celebration to be remember. Some may wonder what is the difference between a funeral and a home-going service? Wikipedia explains it this way. A funeral is a ceremony for honoring, respecting, sanctifying, or remembering the life of a person who has died. A homegoing (or home-going) service is an African-American Christian funeral tradition marking the going home of the deceased to the Lord or to heaven. Let’s make it real plain. In the religious setting a funeral is for one who died without Christ. A home-going is for those who knew Christ and lived their life in a manner that secured them a home In heaven. Again I say “What a home-going celebration for Apostle Richard D. Henton”.
If I can I will try to capture the highlight of the two day celebration for the Apostle, the Godfather, the General of Prayer, General of Spiritual Warfare, father, husband, brother, Pastor, Shepherd, teacher, prophet, evangelist, friend, mentor and spiritual father to many.
On Friday 10-30th there was a musical salute celebration. This was called the local service. This was a service for the Monument Family. The people came from the north, south, east, west, across town, out of town and across the sea as far as London. The seating including main sanctuary, dining room and chapel totals about 2,150. The place was filled to capacity with standing room only available. People parked their cars 2-3 blocks away. My God we knew that he was not only our pastor and that we shared him with the world but the demonstration of love was overwhelming. The atmosphere was charged with mixed emotions, some tears for the man we will miss, joy that he made it in, some still in shock trying to wrap their minds around the fact that he really is gone. TRIBUTE TO APOSTLE RICHARD D. HENTON
I was driving to a Dr. Appointment when I heard the announcement on the radio: We are paying tribute to Apostle Richard D. Henton who made his transition today. I pulled my car off the road as I began to say over and over “NO, NO it cannot be” while my heart told me Yes, he has reached his desired designation. He has finished his course and heaven awaits his arrival.
It was only the day before that I learned he was being placed in hospice care. His spoken request has always been “Lord keep my mind and keep me on my feet”. When the Dr. gave him his prognosis he stated I will no longer take these treatments if God is ready for me I am ready for him. He stated I will not go on the Dr.’s timetable but on my own. He passed in his sleep quietly at home. God answered his request. Apostle Henton was preaching up to the very end. Two Sundays before his passing he conducted a special service as he taught on the Holy Ghost and signed copies of his new book "The Experience Episode and Encounter of the Holy Ghost".
Let me start over for the person who does not know who Apostle Richard D. Henton was. That number would be very few because this man was truly a gift to the Body of Christ. A brief history of his ministry: FULL POST
