Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you. Well here we are at the end of another year. The older you get the faster time seems to pass by. You celebrate the New Year and make all sorts of promises to yourself of things to pursue for that year. If you are not careful you blink and before you know it the year is gone. People also have a lot of “traditions” they follow. Some of these “traditions have been passed down from generation to generation but sometimes we don’t even remember why we do them – we just know that we do.
For example, most African American celebrate the New Year with a special meal. The menu may include Black-eyed peas, greens (mustard, Turnips or Spinach, ham and or fried chicken, cornbread) and candied jams etc. The thinking behind this tradition is certain foods represent certain things i.e black-eyes peas luck or favor, greens for dollars, and cornbread for gold. Yeah. I don’t know why I follow this tradition I just know I somehow feel guilty if I don’t have certain of these items on my table on New Year Day.
Another old folk saying is, if you start out with a dirty, cluttered house your house will be like that for the rest of the year. So as the end of the year draws near I find myself going through the rooms in the house dusting and cleaning to ensure that the house at least appears neat. Between the end of the year and the first month of the New Year I also go through kitchen cabinets and freezer checking for expired food or “stuff” in the freezer that I no longer recognize. It happen in other churches and you expressed your condolences, shared a sense of sorrow and loss in learning of the passing of a Pastor. This time it has happened to you. It is your beloved Pastor. It is your church. You could not will it away, wish it away, bargain for more time, pray it away. After all, death is the entrance into the new life. It is why you live your life to live again. It is why you sing songs like: Soon One Morning, I’m Going To Fly Away, When the Saints Go Marching In, Get Right Church etc. However, it does not come without pain and without mixed emotions. You still struggle with denial and find yourself saying as I do “I can’t believe my Pastor is gone home”.
Your church may be one that is young in age, recently established. It may be one that is mature, been established for a long time and the Pastor was the founder. It may be one that has experience the loss of a Pastor before perhaps via retirement, transfer or death. The results is the same. It is a life changing event, a time of emotional upheaval, questions about the future – for your church and your personal life. It is a time of uncertainty. It is uncomfortable. It is a time of transition. Transition defined as: passage from one state, stage, subject, or place to another. FULL POST

What a homegoing celebration to be remember. Some may wonder what is the difference between a funeral and a home-going service? Wikipedia explains it this way. A funeral is a ceremony for honoring, respecting, sanctifying, or remembering the life of a person who has died. A homegoing (or home-going) service is an African-American Christian funeral tradition marking the going home of the deceased to the Lord or to heaven. Let’s make it real plain. In the religious setting a funeral is for one who died without Christ. A home-going is for those who knew Christ and lived their life in a manner that secured them a home In heaven. Again I say “What a home-going celebration for Apostle Richard D. Henton”.
If I can I will try to capture the highlight of the two day celebration for the Apostle, the Godfather, the General of Prayer, General of Spiritual Warfare, father, husband, brother, Pastor, Shepherd, teacher, prophet, evangelist, friend, mentor and spiritual father to many.
On Friday 10-30th there was a musical salute celebration. This was called the local service. This was a service for the Monument Family. The people came from the north, south, east, west, across town, out of town and across the sea as far as London. The seating including main sanctuary, dining room and chapel totals about 2,150. The place was filled to capacity with standing room only available. People parked their cars 2-3 blocks away. My God we knew that he was not only our pastor and that we shared him with the world but the demonstration of love was overwhelming. The atmosphere was charged with mixed emotions, some tears for the man we will miss, joy that he made it in, some still in shock trying to wrap their minds around the fact that he really is gone. TRIBUTE TO APOSTLE RICHARD D. HENTON
I was driving to a Dr. Appointment when I heard the announcement on the radio: We are paying tribute to Apostle Richard D. Henton who made his transition today. I pulled my car off the road as I began to say over and over “NO, NO it cannot be” while my heart told me Yes, he has reached his desired designation. He has finished his course and heaven awaits his arrival.
It was only the day before that I learned he was being placed in hospice care. His spoken request has always been “Lord keep my mind and keep me on my feet”. When the Dr. gave him his prognosis he stated I will no longer take these treatments if God is ready for me I am ready for him. He stated I will not go on the Dr.’s timetable but on my own. He passed in his sleep quietly at home. God answered his request. Apostle Henton was preaching up to the very end. Two Sundays before his passing he conducted a special service as he taught on the Holy Ghost and signed copies of his new book "The Experience Episode and Encounter of the Holy Ghost".
Let me start over for the person who does not know who Apostle Richard D. Henton was. That number would be very few because this man was truly a gift to the Body of Christ. A brief history of his ministry: FULL POST

Once again we watch in horror at yet another story of murder unfold before our eyes. True intercessors will recognize this for what it is; manifestation of demonic activity. During the month of October we must be vigilant about using our authority of binding up evil and losing the power of God in the name of Jesus. We must be deliberate in lifting up the name of Jesus, the glory of God to counter attack satanic power and influence. We must shift the atmosphere and invoke the presence and glory of God to rest upon the earth.
It is not enough to bind up the strongman of murder and all attached demons but we must lose something in its place. We must lose the power of God’s glory to cover the earth. Ask God for a season of peace and love. Ask God to send the warring angels to assist us in this fight and dethrone every unclean ruling spirit over the region. There is a great need for intercessors throughout the land to begin to pray from the positon of heaven according to the word of God that we are seated in heavenly places with Christ (Eph 2:5-6). From this position we are above the problem, not on the same level of the problem. Intercessors across the land must declare the Blood of Jesus over every gate entrance to the city, in the air space, land and water. God stands ready to move on our behalf but is waiting on us to act on his word and ask him to stretch out his hands. FULL POST

Have you ever in your lifetime been in a place where you felt so alone, deserted, unwanted, unappreciated, unloved, lost, cut off, unaccepted, rejected or just plain lonely? Most people can relate to this experience or will one day experience it. Isolation defined by an act or instance of isolating. the state of being isolated. the complete separation from others of a person suffering from contagious or infectious disease. Let's break it down again. Isolate cause (a person or place) to be or remain alone or apart from others.
Incubate. I found this definition on vocalubary.com incubate when a chicken sits on an egg, it incubates it. To incubate means to keep something safe and warm so that it can grow. Wikipedia looking at this word from psychology states: Incubation is one of the 4 proposed stages of creativity: preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification. Wikipedia religion defined it this way: Incubation is the religious practice of sleeping in a sacred area with the intention of experiencing a divinely inspired dream or cure. Then there is this definition: Salaat-ul-lstikhaarah an Islamic prayer with the intention of searching for guidance for a decision or issue. FULL POST

God’s Word Trump Man’s Law. John 1:1 in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. PSALM 119:89 -- “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” Before man was, God was, is and will forever be. Man cannot outthink, plan, or plot God. Man if finite he has a beginning and end. God is infinite without beginning or ending. God is God.
God’s Word Trump Man’s Law. On 6-26-15 Supreme Court Justice in a 5-4 vote ruled that same-sex couples can marry nationwide in all 50 states. In doing so they took away the rights of individual states to make that decision or have individual voice on the matter. Salute these four judges who dared to vote against this rule: Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
God’s Word Trump Man’s Law. Legal is not the same thing as being right. Man has legalized many things over the years that was morally wrong i.e. slavery, Jim Crow laws, prostitution in some countries, to name just a few. In some instances, over time man has come to realize that certain laws were unjust and immoral. These laws were overturned, withdrawn, rejected and changed. In these swiftly changing times we must hold on to God's unchanging hand knowing with certainty that God does not change. As he has been he will always be. God is faithful to his word and watches over it to perform it and the word he sends out can not returned until it has accomplished that it was sent to do. FULL POST

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Jesus tells us to pray. If we pray we will not faint. Yet many believers find it difficult to understand the concept of “ought always to pray. Many use prayer as a last resort or pray only when there is a crisis in their life.
Why believers don’t pray? They don’t understand how to pray. The disciples asked Jesus “teach us to pray”. Jesus gave them the pattern of prayer. Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. The pattern starts with acknowledgment of who God is and praise for who he is. Then submission to his will. Then petition is presented. Lastly, return to praise. As you meditate on the Lord’s Prayer the pattern will become clearer. (I will cover this subject in another blog)
Why believers don’t pray? They don’t understand what prayer is nor the purpose of prayer. Prayer has many purposes but the most important one is that it allows us to be in communion with our heavenly father. When you are in love with a person you want to talk to them often, to be with them in their presence because it builds intimacy. Daily communion with God increase our ability to know the mind of God, his character, his desires and plans for our lives. FULL POST

Well, if you have been following this segment of the Blog “Weather the Storm” this is the final part of this series. I really encourage you to take the time to reread those sections but I will do a quick review.
Weather the Storm tackles a prevalent but seldom acknowledge problem in the body of Christ. The problem is the high number of divorce among our Pastors and leaders. There was a time when the body of Christ and society frowned upon divorce. Now it seems to be too quickly accepted. Nevertheless, the blog was not about pointing fingers or condemning but rather examine the aspects that lead to the breakdown of marriage.
A reoccurring theme was misplaced priorities, ineffective communication and failure to attend to each other’s need. Sometimes there was a lack of accountability that contributed to the problem. Resources were listed to provide encouragement, information and support.
Weather the Storm part two examines the breakdown from the eyes of the “First Lady”. It tells her story, her pain, struggles, self esteem, feeling of loneliest, feeling unloved, unwanted, unfulfilled, disrespected, rejected, insignificant and misunderstood. The saddest part being that most times “Pastor” had not a clue of what was happening with his mate. FULL POST
