BP, the Pressure Tests, and Integrity

text size A A A

As I write, the nation is holding its collective breath while BP tests the strength of the new cap that has, at least temporarily, stopped the devastating flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. The BP scientists are doing pressure checks. As they read the gauges deep inside the well, they're hoping to find high pressure readings. That means the cap is holding and that oil isn't leaking from some other part of the well. But if the pressure is low, then they've still got serious problems. Low readings would indicate that the integrity of the well was compromised and that more leaks exist.

Pressure reveals integrity.

Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands,Deuteronomy 8:2.

Sometimes God will allow tests and trials to come into your life as a means of checking--and hopefully revealing--your integrity. An old country proverb says it this way: If you want to know what's in a man, squeeze him. You'll find out.

Are you being squeezed right now? Has unemployment, a health issue or a difficult relationship found its way into your life? Go ahead and embrace the test. Such trials in life (and we're all going to have them) are a great way to let you inner light shine. They're a great way to honor God. And remember, the test is a season. It too will pass.
