Just Sing

text size A A A

"sing to the Lord a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them." Isaiah 42:10

When friends come to me, face down, eyes averted and full of tears, and wanting words of encouragement, I tell them to sing. Yes, they often look at me like my cheese has slid off the cracker, but with all my heart I believe that if we can put our grief and anger aside, just for a few minutes, we can find a song and sing to our Creator. Our Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, and Jehovah Rapha, our Healer, has a plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11).

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds," James 1:2

Your faith, or lack thereof, is what either holds you back or moves you forward. Do you believe that God is greater than evil ? Do you believe that He can overcome anything ? Do we not believe that through Christ ALL things are possible? God already has it all figured out. He knows and loves you so much He died for you. So it seems fairly easy to tackle this problem when you look at what He's already done on the cross.
Colossians 3:16 says:
"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts."

Start singing my brothers and sisters! Show the enemy that your God is bigger than the enemy's deceit and destructiveness. He's only looking to bring you down. You wear a crown that he wants to steal but He who is in you is greater than he who is in this world!! So if He lives in your heart, and I hope He does, then what problem can defeat you??? Tell that mountain to move and then sing. Sing because His love for you is greater than the destructive forces of the enemy. Sing because you trust that He's already got this. Sing because you trust Him when everything looks hopeless.

"speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord," Ephesians 5:19

It doesn't cost any money, nor do you need a referral for a specialist. You can stop right where you are and do it. Not always as easy as it sounds, right? Sometimes those words of trust and adoration get stuck in your throat. Keep trying. It might come out a mousey squeak but He will hear you. When Paul sang, his shackles fell off (Acts 16:25,26). We believe in a God who doesn't give up or abandon in time of great need. We believe in a God who sacrificed it all and claimed our punishment, our inequities, and our suffering as His own, only to transform that sacrifice into something so much greater! He can and He will take what is hurt and turn it into joy. He will change what has been destroyed and make it new again. So sing a new song to God and watch Him take that praise and use it to change your life, to bring you increase and blessings you can't even imagine. Just sing!

10) Was it not you who dried up the sea,
the waters of the great deep,
who made a road in the depths of the sea
so that the redeemed might cross over?
11) Those the Lord has rescued will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.
12) “I, even I, am he who comforts you.
Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
human beings who are but grass,

Isaiah 51:10-12
