How to Have a Personal Pentecost Sunday

This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, the Sunday when the Holy Spirit fell on the day of Pentecost. Because of that and because of my own passion to see the church once again empowered with the Holy Spirit as in the book of Acts, and yet without the hype and nonsense that is sometimes associated with the Holy Spirit, I have decided to post on Pentecost Sunday.
Regardless of denominations, we all need a Pentecost Sunday experience.
Regardless of your denominational affiliation, I think we can all agree upon one basic premise. Without the enabling and empowering of the Holy Spirit, we cannot accomplish the work in front of us. Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they received power. (Acts 1:4-8) That empowerment happened on Pentecost Sunday. It only makes sense that if the guys that spent 3 years with Jesus needed power in order to accomplish their task, then we, who did not have that privilege, are even more dependent on needing the power they received on Pentecost Sunday.
It takes the power of the Holy Spirit like happened on Pentecost Sunday to win people to Jesus
You see folks, people do not get saved by mental assent. All our book learning, all of our head knowledge cannot transform a single person into a born again believer of Jesus. That is a work of the Holy Spirit. I ask you today, do we not have the same huge task as they did? A world that had a culture and mindset that is opposed to the things of God? Are we not in a very real sense, living among modern Romans? Do you think maybe we need a personal Pentecost Sunday in our lives?
So, I would like to encourage you. Spend some time getting to know the third person of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit is not some add on, some upgrade, or some optional part of our Christian experience. He is just as much God, as God the Father, and God the Son. He is the one that Jesus sent to lead and guide us. He is the one that was sent to be the comforter. He is the one that was sent to empower us to do the job God has given us. He was sent by God on Pentecost Sunday and is still available for us today.
In my way of thinking, the reason we have a world that in all honesty is going to hell in a hand basket, is because we are not empowered the way we need to be empowered. I think this is because we have allowed both the world and those that would put their faith and trust in their own human reasoning to label any desire to be empowered by the Spirit as emotionalism and pseudo-spirituality and not true biblical Christianity. Let me ask you, what would suit the devil's plans more than to have a bunch of people proclaiming Jesus without the power to back up those claims? Would it not make them look as if they serve a God who isn't real? What is the world's biggest complaint about Christianity? They do not believe God is real! Do you see the connection yet? Do you see why Pentecost Sunday is so important?
So I would like to challenge us all this Pentecost Sunday.
For the next 10 days will you join me in doing 3 simple things?
- Do a bible study by just reading every New Testament reference to the Holy Spirit. If you do not have a bible, or do not know how to look up all of those scriptures, you can go to Biblegateway.com and just put Holy Spirit in the search box.
- Spend 15 minutes a day just asking God to send the Holy Spirit to empower you like He empowered the disciples on Pentecost Sunday. Be humble and honest with Him that you cannot do the job yourself and are depending upon God to help you by sending the Helper. If you have had any negative thoughts or attitudes about the Holy Spirit, this would be a good time to ask forgiveness and to make sure you have not grieved the Holy Spirit by these attitudes.
- Ask God to open your eyes to opportunities to let the Holy Spirit use you to touch people's lives. If you see a person in need, or if you sense you might have a bit of insight for someone, or even maybe if you see a sick person, or a person hungry. Whatever the situation may be, ask God to open your eyes in the midst of your busy day. As you read all the verses about the Holy Spirit, God will start revealing to you, how the Holy Spirit can be the one that meets the need in that persons life.
I am going to do this for the next 10 days. Will you? Sign up to join the challenge by leaving a comment below!
Blessings to you all!
