Is It Only the Flag?

Darwin's Theory of Evolution that supported racial supremacy also gave meaning to the Confederate flag.

Since the terribly tragic murders of the nine members at the Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina there has been a rising crescendo of voices demanding the expulsion of the Confederate flag from public view and display.

In other words, Darwin’s position gave justification for the modern world’s monsters like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse Dung, and even Fidel Castro to murder over 100 million people. But before any of them came into power, Darwin’s book On the Origin of Species or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life (1959) had laid a foundation for what many people believed was also applicable to humanity:

“In the distant future, I see open fields of far more important research where psychology will be based on a new foundation that of the necessary requirement of each mental power and capacity by gradation… life will be shown in the origin of man in his history.”

Although On the Origin of Species… did not place man directly into the picture at that time, the implications were throughout. Darwin explained variations and adaptations in animals and plants while subtly pointing back to a common point of origin. He drew conclusions based upon what was considered logic and reasoning while emphasizing that these changes were all processes of natural occurrences over hundreds of millions of years without the intervention of an Intelligent Being.

It was the primer for his second publication The Descent of Man which was more direct and concise on his true goal and purpose—to prove that the Negro in particular was low enough on his evolutionary scale to be used as a beast of burden, but yet high enough on that same scale to have sufficient intelligence to be taught to communicate as well as perform certain tasks.

Darwin and his fellow intellectuals firmly believed that they had assembled solid proof through scientific biology that there were indeed varying degrees of humanity ranging from the most ape-like to the most superior form of human. This is the pinnacle of evolutionary theory.

On page 122 of The Descent of Man, Darwin envisioned…

“At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked,* will no doubt be exterminated …The break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the negro or Australian and the gorilla.”

This was not a warning for future generations, but an expectation to be carried out for the good of humanity itself! Although slavery had been in practice in America for nearly two hundred years, Darwin’s books proved to be a lifesaver for the institution of slavery. His evolutionary theory came into the American culture from Europe and undergirded the southern slave owner’s and northern sympathizer’s precepts that held that black people were subhuman at the least, and were rightfully used as slaves and property at the most. Even some Christians held on to the false Biblical teachings of racial superiority, giving consent that slavery was ordained by God.

As more people’s consciences were pricked by the Word of God, the nation itself became caught up in a great moral, spiritual and economic struggle that culminated in the Civil War! As the Confederate States of America succumbed to the military might of the Union forces, the will to fight was defeated, but not necessarily the belief that black people were still seen as a race inferior to whites. For many, it was and still is part of the southern culture, symbolically sewn into the fabric of the Confederate flag, the symbol of that time when the southern states—the Confederate States of America—thrived in its glory and power.

In this system, the Negro slaves lived under the laws of Darwin instead of Jehovah, destined to be eventually extinguished, but not before serving a life of bondage and labor. The Confederacy upheld the pending doom of the Negro slave, postponed only at the whim of his superior white master. Darwinism became so firmly entrenched within the hearts and minds of many white southerners that they soon began to question the authenticity of the Holy Bible and the existence of God himself!

Consequently, in light of today’s vigorous efforts to remove the Confederate flag that reminds black Americans in particular of America’s racist past, why is there no mention of Darwin’s theory of evolution?

Subsequently, each of the persons mentioned, as well as many others, actually sought to fulfill Darwin’s dream. The dark destiny for the Negro was also for the Aborigine, the native American, the Asian, the Jew and any race that was not considered to be Caucasian.
