Saul Alinsky: The Man Behind the Movement

text size A A A

Political Climate Reflective of the Person He Dedicated His Best Work To

Saul Alinsky (January 30, 1909 - June 12, 1972) is known to be the father of today's modern-day protest movements in America. His methods for community organizing have become an institutionalized part of academia today, including accredited courses of study in many of our colleges and universities.

One of the most sinister influences that permeates the American socio-political and economic fabric of our culture and society lies in the teaching of a man named Saul Alinsky. Born in Chicago in 1909 to Russian Jewish parents, he is known indisputably as the founder of the community organizing movement. When you hear an individual describing his or her occupation as being a community organizer, be assured that to some degree, they are most likely a disciple of Saul Alinsky’s teachings.

If there was anything that could be said of him in a positive light, he could be described as a purist of his own making—a devotee to his own philosophy. His focus was based upon organizing people—preferably those who he saw as being oppressed. He claimed to revile any form of organized religion, but was often pressed to assert his principles for organizing groups of people for a purpose.

Alinsky was Jewish by birth, but followed the path of atheism more than anything else. As Christian believers, this position places him outside the realm of personal redemption. Two pieces of evidence suggest that he was a man of his own choosing, preferring to stand even on the outside of life’s most consistent questions concerning man’s eternal fate. The first indication is revealed in his book that has become a primer for those who seek leadership in the leftist/Marxist/socialist movement of today. Alinsky is neither bashful nor timid about his dedication to community organizing. He does not reflect upon any of humanity's great philosophers or leaders of ancient or modern times.

Alinsky's tribute to Lucifer (Satan) in his book Rules for Radicals would be a gigantic red flag for not just Christians, but people of many of the religious belief systems of the day. However, the book is required reading for many in the left-leaning circles including the NEA and major universities, as well as individual leaders including Ralph Nader, Jesse Jackson, Caesar Chavez, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and President Barack Obama.

Instead, on the dedication page of his “primer for community organizers” titled Rules for Radicals, he gives credit to Lucifer as being an inspiration to his teachings and organizational strategies. Lucifer, also known as Satan, the devil, El Diablo, The Adversary and many other names. Lucifer transcends time and culture, but the vast majority of humanity's opinion is that this fallen angel is the source of evil in the world! The Judeo-Christian view tells us that he did organize the first rebellion against God in heaven.

He also organized the first rebellion on earth through Adam and Eve by using lies and slander. Satan first intentionally mis-represented God's word. In Genesis chapter the essence of the Fall of Man is recorded for all time. Satan introduced the challenge to God's authority, as God had already fordade Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, and the consequences thereof- certain death.

But Satan lied and told Eve "Ye shall not surely die..." (Genesis 3:4). He manipulated Eve into questioning God's authority. Then Satan used slander to cause Adam and Eve to justify their own actions: "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil." (Genesis 3:5).

So like Lucifer, Alinsky's methodology uses and takes advantage of a truth, but turns it into the direction he wants it to go! Certainly, there has been and still is pain and poverty within our cities and communities. There are rich and poor Americans- as there has always been and shall always be! Even Jesus has recognized the existence of the poor in Matthew 26:11, Mark 14:7 and John 12:8, and has certainly made it an important part of the life of His followers to take care of them. However, Jesus has never directed believers to use the poor in serving our own purposes or keep them in a perpetual state of poverty, dependence and hopelessness. That is Satanic!

The documentary The Democratic Promise: Saul Alinsky and His Legacy, states the "Alinsky championed new ways to organize the poor and powerless that created a backyard revolution in cities across America." The Marxist, socialist and communists in America who specialized in befriending groups of people in crisis readily adopted his community organizing strategies- if they did not help formulate and perfect them in the first place.

In the philosophy of community organizing, the end always justifies the means!

The second piece of evidence that points to Alinsky's own state of lostness lies within his own view of life after death. His biography in Wikipedia references a March 1972 interview with Playboy magazine. Concerning the afterlife, the transcript went as follows:

ALINSKY: ... if there is an afterlife, and I have anything to say about it, I will unreservedly choose to go to hell.

PLAYBOY: Why?

ALINSKY: Hell would be heaven for me. All my life I've been with the have-nots. Over here, if you're a have-not, you're short of dough. If you're a have-not in hell, you're short of virtue. Once I get into hell, I'll start organizing the have-nots over there.

PLAYBOY: Why them?

ALINSKY: They're my kind of people.

So the Christian community must certainly be made aware that America and the Body of Christ itself is not merely embroiled in matters of economics, public education, immigration or any other matter of public policy; but, is actually in full conflict in a spiritual war! As the Apostle Paul has stated, we need to...

"... put on the whole armour of God so you can take your stand against the devil's schemes... For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

Ephesians 6:11-12 (NIV)

This is a struggle for the soul of America, and the Alinsky disciples have been relentless in manipulating the masses of disenchanted people towards its downfall in order to rebuild it as a welfare state. To be a community organizer today is seen as a badge of honor even within its own ambiguity. The Occupy Wall Street movement, ACORN, public unions, illegal immigration proponents, ethnic groups and many more organizations bear the results of community organizer influences. Our duty is to call them out as being practitioners of Luciferian doctrines not based upon truth and light, but of wickedness and deceit. Saul Alinsky was certainly honest enough to dedicate his book to the one who inspired him the most - Lucifer - and the vast majority of his disciples today reflect the same!
