Dear Abby on Religion

text size A A A

This week Pauline Friedman Phillips, the influential columnist that started writing Dear Abby, died at 94 years old. Even though Phillips wrote more about relationships than religion and was a supporter of abortion, I attempted to find anything she wrote about religion. Here are two comments:

  • "A church is a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints."
  • "Religion, like water, may be free, but when they pipe it to you, you've got to help pay for piping. And the Piper."
