Bible verses Matthew 9:37-38 are very well known. I would like to share them in two different Bible translations.
English Standard Version
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Then He said to His disciples, The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. So pray to the Lord of the harvest to force out and thrust laborers into His harvest.
Two thoughts on these Bible verses
- The ESV translation says we should "pray earnestly" for workers to bring in the harvest. Have you prayed earnestly for pastors, missionaries, church planters, and Bible study teachers and the rest of the body of Christ to make disciples?
- The Amplified Bible says for us to pray for God to "force out and thrust laborers into His harvest." That implies that there are Christians filled with complacency that do not want to work in the harvest fields. They would rather have a life of comfort. Does God need to force you into the harvest fields?
