The famous children's lullaby Mary Had a Little Lamb turned 182 years old this past Saturday. According to Wikipedia, the song was based on a true story about a girl named Mary Sawyer that brought her pet lamb to school.

When I was child, I thought this song was about the Mary found in the Bible, the woman chosen by God to give birth to the Savior of the world. Mary was humble when an angel revealed that she would give birth to Jesus. Her response is reported in Luke 1:38.

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Even though we will never be chosen by God for an assignment like that, God still has tasks for us to do.

My favorite Bible verse says, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." - Ephesians 2:10 NLT

That verse amazes me. Us sinful, rebellious humans are God's greatest creation because God made us to have a relationship with Him.
