"Sure, I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure, I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be." -John Wayne
God sometimes uses small towns as settings for big stories. In Iowa, this has happened time and again: In 1940, Iowa's own Glenn McDole enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and bravely served in WWII. On August 12, 1942, he entered the Palawan prison camp in the Philippines. Two long years later on December 14, 1944, Japanese soldiers slaughtered about 93% of American POWs. The Japanese lied. They announced false air raids to move prisoners into underground shelters. Then, they mercilessly poured gasoline on top of them and used dynamite and machine guns to murder the POWs. Our brave soldiers were slain by evil, blood-thirsty hands. They died a hellish death for our freedom. Yet McDole escaped.
Amazingly, Glenn McDole was one of eleven young men who escaped. He was the last man out of the Palawan Prison Camp 10A. McDole and the ten other survivors dug into refuse piles, hid in coral caves, and slogged through jungle and swamps to safety. The horrifying conditions suffered by McDole and his comrades were endured for America's freedom - our freedom. FULL POST

Donald Trump. His name alone elicits a wide range of reactions. But one thing is true: Trump has drawn attention to criminal immigration and securing the border. Along with countless non-rapists, there are drug lords, terrorists, and rapists crossing the border. Arrest records prove it. Furthermore, the mainstream media latched onto and misquoted Trump's recent statements.
Fact: Mr. Trump has boldly and publically shared these views for years (including in his 2011 book “Time to Get Tough”). NBC, Univision, Macy’s, etc. have been aware of his views for years but act as though it is all “new”.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that “agitators” put pressure on those companies to sever ties with Donald Trump. Just who are the “agitators” anyway? Mr. Trump continues to rise in the polls (much to the dismay of the Bush and Clinton campaigns). Why? Because he told the truth.
While we at UnitetheUSA.org have not issued our official endorsement of any 2016 candidate yet, we are pointing out the double standard and the curious mistreatment he has received. And now, the violent drug lord “El Chapo” has viciously threatened Trump's life and the FBI is involved. One thing is for sure, Mr. Trump has brought the massive illegal immigration issue to the forefront of the 2016 election. We appreciate his tenacity and integrity about telling the truth (that there are murderers and rapists along with the non-violent families crossing the border). Fascinating courage.

God created marriage. He has the right to define it -not us. He loves everyone, but He also rightly defines what is right and wrong. He does this to protect us -not oppress us. He wants marriage to be between one man and one woman. Period.
From our hearts, we pray that marriage will be protected in the USA. Marriage is between one man and one woman and it can be nothing else. Pray for the Supreme Court to be led by the Supreme Lord of Heaven.
Recently, Rev. Rafael Cruz sounded the alarm:
"Let me tell you, this is not about homosexual marriage. It is about religious freedom. Because if the court rules that homosexual marriage is a right, mark my words, the next thing is going to be they'll come to a church and say you must perform a homosexual marriage or we're going to put you in jail. Or you must hire a homosexual pastor or we'll put you in jail. This thing is not about homosexual couples. You know, civil unions have been legal for a long time."
Alarmingly, we're already seeing many examples of this type of persecution happening in our country. (Click here to learn more.)
Right now, our country is awaiting the ruling on same-sex "marriage" by the U.S. Supreme Court. Sometime in June, we will learn the Supreme Court's decision in allowing same-sex "marriage" in all 50 states. FULL POST

This month, we offer an instant opportunity to take action to save babies from abortion: The U.S. House of Representatives will vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act this week. We urge you to contact your Congressman or woman to support the bill. Please read our Action Center section below to learn how to contact them.
Believe it or not, the inundation of communication can still make a difference. The alternative (silence) only gives a quiet nod to the enemy.
We need to be steadfast in the fight for life and work to protect every baby and stop all abortion. By taking action to support this bill, it will move us further along the path to claim victory over abortion.
You may be wondering, "Why does the bill focus on stopping abortion at 20 weeks?" Well, research shows that by that point, babies feel excruciating pain during an abortion. The babies are human beings who deserve protection. Yes, they are unborn Americans and we need to be their voice.
Undoubtedly, this will be a multi-Congress effort because President Obama is opposed to this bill. But the process must start now even under the current administration. (Remember, back in the 1990's, pro-life workers started the fight to end partial-birth abortion even while we had a pro-abortion president at the time. When we elected a pro-life president in 2000, the stage had been previously set to end partial birth abortion and it passed into law.) FULL POST

How do you identify a misinformed citizen? Anyone who denies the Christian heritage of the United States instantly unveils his/her misguided beliefs.
Fact: The United States of America is a Christian nation. Our country's deep history proves it. A plethora of letters, legislation, documents, etc. leave an extensive paper trail which proves that, yes, America was founded by Christians. We were founded to be a land of freedom -including freedom of religion. (Note the First Amendment in the U.S. Constitution.) So much evidence exists and demands a verdict in support of it.
Patrick Henry furthered this point when he said, "This great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ."
The recent religious freedom bill in Indiana brought out the fact that Christian Americans' religious freedom is under attack. (Please read the featured article by Dr. Jerry Newcombe. It explains in detail what we mean.)
Indeed, "tolerance" should not be a one-way street. But sadly, current cultural trends map a one-way street for Christian Americans.
Christian rights are being attacked and dismissed with a growing intensity. We desire to live out our deeply-held beliefs respectfully and reverently while trying to honor the Lord. We are not being intolerant when we disagree with others' actions. We are simply trying to live by our faith as Christians. Sadly, those pushing the homosexual agenda don't understand that. (And that's an understatement.) We choose to follow the Golden Rule -not incite hatred. While it's not a surprise, the media overlook or misrepresent Christians. FULL POST

Many of us remember the Terri Schiavo case. It has been ten years ago today since she was tragically starved and dehydrated to death. In this edition of Unite the USA, we want to honor Terri's memory and bring awareness to the continued fight for life. You will find an article by her brother, Bobby Schindler, and a television special about Terri hosted by Joni Eareckson Tada. Click here to see this special edition: http://www.unitetheusa.org/id129.html
Most of the time when ...we hear about Terri Schiavo, we think about the terrible way she died. But who was Terri as a person? Terri was a kind, sweet, quiet, loving young woman. She loved her family, pets, music, art, and most of all, her Lord and Savior. Terri cared about others and she was a person who lived her faith. Learn more about Terri at www.terrisfight.org or at the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network.
We urge you to share this edition with your friends because there are many more people just like Terri who need you to be their voice. Please do your part in the fight for life.
God bless you,

First of all, Valentine's Day presents major opportunities to share Jesus' love at a prime time! You see, as we know, Valentine's Day catalyzes acute cases of loneliness at an epidemic rate in America. And the sufferers include a wide range of people: widows and widowers, divorced people, singles, military men and women serving away from home, unhappily married people, etc. This is an opportunity for us as Christians to share Jesus' love and comfort. I love this passage from II Corinthians 1:3-5 (ESV): "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too."
In fact, the best way to love America is to love Americans with Christ's love and love the Lord, who allowed America to be founded.
Look around you: In America, a lot of people's hearts ache today. Be the deliverer of Christ's comfort. Let's cover the main heart health trouble in America and answer it with God's Word: FULL POST

In the face of increased terrorism threats, our hearts feel heavy with a burden to pray hard for Jewish people, Christian people, our country, etc. We shake our heads as we consider the utter failure of our current Administration, which keenly evidences itself in Obama's inaction about ISIS. Thousands of people have been slaughtered and little has been done to stop them.
Obama's inaction is action. We struggle to believe that the manner with which his policies have shrunk our military, dishonored veterans, and lowered our national defense could be anything shy of either incompetence or sheer anti-Americanism. Regardless, we're in a position that only lends itself to prayer. Passionate prayer.
Last month, when we appeared on Fox News again, we discussed ways to encourage our military. Today, we do the same but with a different emphasis: Please, please pray for our military men and women. Pray for all who are targeted by evil. Pray for the Jewish people, who are emigrating from Europe at the highest rates since the terrorism of the Nazi's in WWII. With the increased pressure and threats from ISIS/ISIL, we must do our duty as prayer warriors to ask the Lord to protect our nation's warriors, for all persecuted peoples, and for ourselves. A tired WWII veteran looked up from his recliner and made eye contact with me. The time had finally come to share vivid memories of the war: "I heard my friend, only 19-years-old like me; he screamed, 'My legs are gone!' Then I stepped on a mine. I felt it tear into me. I prayed...not so much for myself, but for my family...my mom, my dad. I lived...but [my friend] died..." Such sacrifice deserves our appreciation. Let's recognize that freedom isn't free. Today, let's pause and pray for our veterans. "I fought for the right to say 'Merry Christmas'." The veteran made eye contact and his eyes displayed the signature acute, astute gaze of a hero. My family and I reflected later on how poignant was that quote and that moment.
Veterans fought for our freedoms -including the freedom to celebrate Christmas. This veteran vividly reminded us of that fact. Powerful.
Take a moment. Picture Christmas. Food covers red and green themed tables, which are surrounded by talkative and laughing loved ones. Faith, hope, and love saturate songs in the background. Aromas of cinnamon and savory meats fill the air. Bliss.
But what about Christmas for veterans, their families, and the troops? Well, it's not always such a pretty picture. And that's putting it mildly. FULL POST

Of all years, 2014 proves uniquely challenging for troops, veterans, and their families. The Obama Administration has cut military and veterans' support, ignored problems at VA hospitals, and removed Christian symbols of hope where they are needed the most. (More information is available in an article by the FRC called A Clear and Present Danger: The Threat to Religious Liberty in the Military.)
At Christmas, we must help bring back the true meaning to our troops, veterans, and their families. Many families will not have loved ones -either because of serving abroad or the ultimate sacrifice of a loved one dying for our country.
Allow us to make remembering veterans, troops, and military families feel loved this Christmas.
1. Send Christmas care packages to our troops. (Please see details below.)
2. Reach out to our veterans this Christmas. Many veterans, especially WWII veterans, spend Christmas alone in nursing homes. Each American can do something to change that.
3. Military families sacrifice so much, too. If you know a family whose husband, wife, son, daughter, mom, or dad can't come home for Christmas, reach out to them. Give them a Christmas gift, gift card, cookies, or even a greeting card. Do something to acknowledge them and offer your thanks and prayers. FULL POST
