Following the death of former pastor Fred Phelps, Westboro Baptist Church tweeted:

Westboro Baptist Church's commission: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Here, here

Then Westboro shared a photo of a church member holding posters with the messages "GOD H8S FAGS" and "KEEP GOD'S LAW."

Ironically the word "gospel" means good news and salvation cannot be earned by keeping the law.

Meanwhile spoken word artist John Wesley Reid gives a sincere apology to gays and lesbians for the hatred espoused by Westboro Baptist Church. This is the message that Phelps could have preached if he had understood the love of Jesus Christ.

But I also know that I have sinned too.
And whether you are gay or straight, the Gospel's still true.
And He can restore a hurting broken view into a new and beautiful design like you.

The Gospel is the news that Jesus took the punishment we deserved by dying for our sins, and now offers forgivenss and a relationship with Him through faith. This salvation is a gift.

You see this man of love who got nailed to a tree,
Had his children in mind and begged this one plea
That God the Father would show mercy
Even on those of whom Christ's death were guilty.

As Reid explains, "He's a loving God, not a Westboro beast."
