Photo: YouTube screen capture
Cows listening to jazz band.

In an amusing YouTube video some musicians play jazz music for cows including the famous song "When the Saints Go Marching In."

The cows move forward to listen. This could be the first time these animals have ever heard music aside froms birds singing.

"When the Saints Go Marching In" was made famous by jazz performer Louis Armstrong and is especially popular in New Orleans due to the local professional football team the New Orleans Saints.

The chorus of the song:

Oh, when the saints go marching in
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in

Hollywood is America's Misunderstood Mission Field

Photo: Flickr/Mr. Littlehand - Creative Commons

Have you ever prayed for your favorite actor or actress or movie director?

A group of Christians working in Hollywood pray for their co-workers and ask us to join them. Karen Covell, founder of the Hollywood Prayer Network, and the members of her ministry compare Hollywood as Ninevah. Against all the odds God can redeem it.

Instead of being critics, a growing number of Christians view Hollywood as a mission field.

In this video the Hollywood Prayer Network tries to end the myths that prevent Christians from being salt and light in Hollywood.

Attorney advertises for spouses seeking a divorce.

Recently a friend went through a very expensive divorce. Throughout the court battle she felt like the system was rigged against her. The documentary Divorce Corp. describes how this system has been corrupted and offers solutions to reduce the costs of filing for divorce. Divorce Corp. reports that divorce is "$50 billion a year U.S. family law industry."

Attorneys that charge a flat fee for service can save divorcees a lot of money. However, few divorce attorneys are payed with this arrangement. Instead most are paid by the hour.

Attorney Doug Kepanis says, "If a judge is late and you're sitting there for three hours, that client is getting billed for those three hours."

Video: Prison Inmates Baptized

Photo: Vimeo screenshot
Prayer inside a prison.

In his books the late author Chuck Colson wrote about worshipping with inmates on Easter Sunday. He enjoyed serving "the least of these." After Colson launched Prison Fellowship, a significant number of churches started prison ministries.

A video from Transformation Church in Indian Land, South Carolina, reminds of how God can change the hearts of prison inmates and that salvation is available to anyone that will place their faith in Jesus Christ and repent of their sins.

Derwin L. Gray says, "As we move into baptism it is a declaration that sin, death and evil has been defeated. Baptism is a declaration that we identify with Jesus."

Jesus acknowledges the role of prison ministry:

I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, jyou did not do it to me.’ - Matthew 25:43-45 FULL POST

Video: Margaret Sanger Opposed Childbirth in Developing Countries

Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, was an outspoken opponent of large families. In her 1922 book Woman and the New Race Sanger writes, "The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant member is to kill it." *

Saynsumthn's Blog, The Daily Caller and Life News  have reported on the discovery of a 1947 British Pathe "One Minute News" newsreel interview of Sanger (then known as Margaret Slee) in which she opposes childbirth in developing countries.

The YouTube description says, "Although this clip is cut short, Mrs. Slee's proposition was actually that there were no more babies in developing countries for the next ten years." FULL POST

When Cats Attend Church

Flickr user pipilongstockings says, "This Cat appeared and kept us company at Ellingham Church."

Perhaps you've seen the videos of dogs mimicking their owners in prayer or dogs being blessed in church. Our feline friends also go to church. They just don't get as much attention.

According to Elizabeth Davenport, the dean of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, "Every great cathedral has always had its cat if you look back through history."

Meet Modo, the Rockfeller Chapel Cat

The Church of the Advent has a web page featuring its cats and reminds us, "Easter Lilies and chocolates are lovely treats for humans, but they are lethal to cats (and chocolate can be lethal to dogs as well). Please keep your Easter treats away from your pets!" FULL POST

Senator Rand Paul Shares the Gospel on Facebook

Photo: Robert Huffstutter - CC

When was the last time you heard a politician share the Gospel, the good news that Jesus Christ came to earth to rescue us from our sin?

Yesterday Kentucky Senator Rand Paul posted on Facebook:

During church today they played this clip from Amena Brown performing the Gospel of John as you've likely never heard it before. Wanted to share it with you.

Amena Brown is a spoken word artist and writer. This poem titled "In the Beginning" is based on John chapter one. The video was produced by BluefishTV, a video production company that specializes in making short videos for use as sermon illustrations. FULL POST

Love Revived: Christian Poet Apologizes for Westboro and Fred Phelps

Photo: YouTube screenshot
Spoken word artist John Reid

Following the death of former pastor Fred Phelps, Westboro Baptist Church tweeted:

Westboro Baptist Church's commission: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Here, here

Then Westboro shared a photo of a church member holding posters with the messages "GOD H8S FAGS" and "KEEP GOD'S LAW."

Ironically the word "gospel" means good news and salvation cannot be earned by keeping the law.

Meanwhile spoken word artist John Wesley Reid gives a sincere apology to gays and lesbians for the hatred espoused by Westboro Baptist Church. This is the message that Phelps could have preached if he had understood the love of Jesus Christ.

Love Revived: A Christian Apology to the LGBT

But I also know that I have sinned too.
And whether you are gay or straight, the Gospel's still true.
And He can restore a hurting broken view into a new and beautiful design like you. FULL POST

Video: The Story of God's Kingdom Growing as People Share the Gospel

Igniter Media produced this video titled Strangers which shows how one faithful Christian can impact numerous people by sharing her faith.

"Nate became a believer partly because of Kim, and oddly enough Kim and Nate have never met. How is this possible? Well, lets take a look ..."

This video shows what can happen when Christians take the Great Commission seriously.

Igniter Media makes videos that are often used as sermon illustrations. Jesus also used illustrations that are called parables. Last year we shared another Igniter Media video, A Social Network Christmas.

Perhaps you have heard the story of how shoe salesman Dwight Moody was led to Christ and the string of events that followed leading to both Billy Sunday and Billy Graham becoming evangelists. Who knows what the future could hold when you or I share the gospel?
