Useless: Compelling Story of Forgiveness (VIDEO)

Ten years ago some Christian filmmakers in California started the 168 Film Project. Filmmakers compete by making a video based on a Bible verse and theme and have one week (168 hours) to shoot and edit the production.

The title of this film Useless  comes from Philemon 1:11 and it was made for the 168 Film Project in 2011.

I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me. - Philemon 1:10-11

The two lead actors might look familiar. Boo Arnold and Kevin Sizemore both have acted in numerous TV productions.

Useless won Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography for films made during the 168 Film Project.

How the Pope Selection Process Works (VIDEO)

The Catholic Church has an episcopal form of church governance which means the bishop is the main authority figure.

According to Theopia, an online encyclopedia covering religion, "There are basically three types of church government that have developed in the various Christian denominations: the episcopal, the presbyterian, and the congregational."

This episcopal form of government plays a role in how the next pope will be selected. This video by C. G. P. Grey explains the election process.

Heaven, Hell and the End of the World: Are We Asking the Wrong Questions?

Pastor David Platt started hosting Secret Church - an annual event in which Christians gather to intensely study the Bible and pray. During the event, participants will pray for persecuted Christians around the world.

This year's event will be held March 29th and participants will study some topics that pastors often avoid regarding hell and the end times.

In this promotional video people ask questions about end times and David Platt asks, "What if amidst all our focus on details about the future, we're in danger of missing the point in the present?"

Google's Advice Applies to Church and Ministry Websites

Before Google emerged, it was often hard to find relevant links in search engines. So many people used directory sites to find relevant information. Google was successful partly for attacking the search engine spam problem.

Matt Cutts leads the Google antispam efforts and blogs regularly about best practices for developing websites. Also Cutts hosts numerous videos on YouTube regarding search engine optimization. These are the techniques that will help your website have better placement in search engines.

In this video Matt responds to a question about sitemaps and goes on to talk about the qualities that define a good website. These qualities should exist in your church or ministry website.

Matt suggests using a text browser to check out your website. If you cannot find all of your articles on your website with a text browser, then Google might not find all of your pages either.

Life After VeggieTales (VIDEO)

Twenty years ago VeggieTales came to life. The animated videos featuring singing vegetables became popular in many preschool homes. Phil Vischer was the driving force behind the VeggieTales and saw his company Big Idea grow rapidly and then crash. In 2003 when the company went bankrupt, Vischer left and started all over again.

Vischer started a less commercial but more important project: What's in the Bible. This is more faithful to the scriptures than VeggieTales partly because of Vischer's spiritual growth.

In 2011 Vischer spoke at the Evangelical Press Association and said, "Suddenly I found myself facing a God I had never heard about in Sunday school. A God that apparently wanted me to let go of my dreams."

“Seven years ago my dream died and I discovered once all the noise faded away what I had been missing all along,” he said. “The impact that God has planned for us does not occur when we are pursuing impact. It occurs when we are pursuing God.”

The Forbidden History of Unpopular People (VIDEO)

Throughout human history there have been unpopular people that challenged the status quo and said unpopular things. These unpopular people were sometimes silenced by their critics and governments.

Documentary filmmaker Topher explores threats to free speech in Australia. American politicians also threaten free speech and personal liberty through legislation.

Topher says, "But everytime we try to make free speech less offensive, we create far more problems than we solve."

Topher also tells a story of political correctness and censorship: A Muslim criticizes gays and is accused of homophobia. Gays criticize Muslims and are accused of Islamaphobia.

How Can We Know We Have Salvation? (VIDEO)

In Philippines 2:12 we are challenged to "work out your salvation with fear and trembling."

The Bible teaches that salvation cannot be earned, so how can we know that we are truly followers of Christ? Pastor David Platt addresses this question about how to know whether or not we have salvation. Platt cites 2 Corinthians 13:5.

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-- unless indeed you fail the test? - 2 Corinthians 13:5 NASB

Pastor David Platt also suggests that Christians study 1 John to know if they truly belong to Jesus Christ.

When Love Is Destiny

My dad instinctively knew the moment he saw my mom that he would marry her. God called my dad to be a minister of the Gospel. It should not be surprising that God would plan out other details in my dad's life.

In the short animated Disney film Paperman, we see two people brought together. It is "destiny" for them to be together.

Destiny can be defined as "predetermined, usually inevitable or irresistible, course of events." - Dictionary.com

God wanted to be in a relationship with us before we were born and this concept of "destiny" appears in the Bible.

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. - Ephesians 2:10 NLT
